You Can Make A Difference
Water is one of Earth’s most precious natural resources, for without it, there is no life. Have you ever thought about the price of water? Think about a gallon of gas as an example. Gasoline in America, at this time, can range from $2.00 to $4.00 per gallon. If a quart or liter of water costs approximately $1.00--what does it cost per gallon? With four quarts per gallon, that’s $4.00 per gallon. The smaller the water bottle, the more it costs to buy and to our environment as those bottles go into your trash. As gasoline fuels a car—water fuels people, our pets, our livestock such as the cattle that end up on your plate as a hamburger with fries.
What You Can Do
Buy washable refillable bottles or designate a colored glass for each member of your family at home. A stainless steel hydration tube, as they're called now, is ideal for carrying water wherever you go. It's unacceptable how much landfill space, plastic water bottles take. They aren't biodegradable. Keep a pitcher of water in your fridge.

Think about this: The water supply we rely on today is the same water that nourished the earth during the time of the dinosaurs thanks to the “water cycle”. It is a finite resource.
Follow a drop of water through the water cycle http://ga.water.usgs.gov/edu/followadrip.html A good example of simple water conservation at home is to put a timer in your bathroom and set it for ten minute showers. Think about the water you use to brush your teeth and wash your face—turn it off when not directly using it. Be sure your washing machine and dishwasher always have a full loads, too.
Certainly crops need irrigation for optimum growth, but your yard probably does not.
