Buy Rechargeable Batteries

Economic and environmental benefits of rechargeable batteries over disposable batteries:
Reduces toxic material in our landfills
Rechargeable batteries may cost more up front but many claim a service life up to 3,000 charge cycles. Think of all the money you can save to power your IPods, MP3 players, portable radios, calculators, keyboards, mice, just to name a few everyday gadgets.
You can extend the life of your rechargeable batteries by keeping them in your refrigerator. Growing use of rechargeable batteries such as hybrid-electric vehicles and electric vehicles continue to improve technology. You can buy portable radios and flashlights with clockwork mechanisms allowed to be recharged with a hand crank.
Just look at all the toys your little brother or sister might be using that could use rechargable batteries. Be aware the batteries are not toys and can contain lead and mercury. So handle them with care, while the U.S. EPA works to make them with less toxic materials.

You only need to do a World Wide Web search for a variety of places to recycle your inkjet printer cartridges. You can get cash back for youth group fund-raisers as well as refill your own cartridges. Playing Dominoes with them could be a messy proposition, and you don't want to overburden landfills.

Recycle Plastic
You need to know a bit more like the code of the plastic to properly recycle it. The plastic industry codes help consumers know the two types of commonly recycled household items.

Plastic soda bottles
are recyclable and are coded with the number 1 and the letters PETE. About 30 percent of all PETE bottles sold are recycled into such items as carpet backing, sleeping bag insulation, containers for non-foods, tool handles, auto parts and clothing. My backpack is composed of recycled plastic bottles. It’s very durable with the recycle symbol on it. Wear the recycle symbol with pride.

One-gallon milk and water jugs are used to make recyclable items such as trash cans, flower pots and plastic pipe. Laundry product bottles are coded with a number 2 and the letters HDPE. Rinse and flatten them to save space, as you do your other containers.
So, it’s helpful to sort your trash. If we all get back to the basics, like not using many disposable items, we can save tons of space and prime farm ground from landfills.
