Do you like chocolate? If so, try some organic chocolate. Small farmers who belong to Equal Exchange reap the benefits of Fair Trade. This worker-owned cooperative, founded in 1986 builds stronger relationships between farmers and consumers. Since I can’t buy organic chocolate, cocoa, coffee and tea grown locally, I support farmers in Latin America, Africa and Asia and enable them to stay on their land, support their families, and care for the environment. Sustainable and organic farming methods offer many benefits over chemical intensive practices, such as cleaner watersheds, reduced erosion, greater soil fertility and a safer working environment.
Do you like pizza? Did you know that pizza boxes are not recyclable because of the grease? So enjoy a pizza party with your friends. You can use your bread machine to make the dough, or make it the old-fashioned way. It’s tight to make your own pizza. The ingredients are quite healthy—tomatoes, cheese, and the vegetables you put on it. Do you like sausage or anchovies on your pizza? I like to use a combination of unbleached whole wheat flour and bread flour. One recipe of pizza dough makes for a large delicious pie, or four small ones for individual tastes.
