You Can Make A Difference
What You Can Do!
Swap clothes with your friends, or consider pre-loved clothes from Goodwill. Rethink what’s in your closet. If it needs fixed—fix it. A needle and thread go a long way to save your money. Learn how to sew on a button or patch a hole. Turn last year’s jeans into this year’s shorts with just a pair of scissors. I started sewing my clothes in fifth grade. Find someone to help you learn this creative art, that you’ll use a lifetime and can pass on to future generations.
Here's a fun way to learn how to sew on a button. Make this Button Bracelet, or enjoy many of the activities on pbskids. http://pbskids.org/zoom/activities/do/buttonbracelet.html
Do you prefer comfy soft blue jeans, or are you a slave to fashion? Shop for natural fabrics like cotton, wool, linen, hemp, rayon and silk. These aren’t just eco-friendly fabrics but natural fibers against your skin, not likely to cause itching. They offer breathability, body temperature regulation, durability and water absorption.
A $5 t-shirt may seem like a great deal, but consider the environmental and economic consequences. Was it made in a sweatshop, where someone is not paid a living wage? Would you want to work there?
Avoid the expense of dry clean only clothes. What a hassle! If you must have a garment dry cleaned, find a cleaner that uses greener methods such as wet-cleaning or liquid CO2 to reduce its toxic load.
